An Analysis on the Movement in the Service of the School Nurse in Korea (1966~1983)


Abstract
The study has been carried out so as to provide some base for the continuing improvement of the school health program.
The exclusive reference for the data presented has been the Statistical Year Book of Education since 1966 through 1983. The data contained there in has been analyzed and researched with a view to personal characteristics of school nurses and some comparisons to general teachers have been incorporated.
The results of the study are as follows;
1. Supplement rate of school nurses per school was increased year by year and was 21% in 1983.
2. As for the distribution of school nurses by grade of licensed qualification, licensed school nurses constituted 85.0% in 1966, and 99.5% in 1983.
3. As for the age distribution of school nurses, the group of 20 to 29 years of age constituted the greatest proportion or 55.2% in 1983.
Comparatively, as for the age distribution of general teachers, the group of 30 to 39 years of age constituted the greatest proportion or 31.3% in 1983. School nurses was younger than general teachers.
4. School nurses who graduated from nursing high schools constituted 70.6% in 1966, while 12.7% in 1983. But those who graduated from three or four-year-course nursing colleges or nursing departments of colleges constituted 24.2% in 1966, while the greatest proportion or 86.2% in 1983.
Comparatively, general teachers who graduated from high schools constituted 47.6% in 1966, while down to 16.4% in 1983. But those who graduated from junior college or university constituted 45.8% in 1966, while constituted 81.6% in 1983.
The academic achievements of school nurses has been higher than that of general teachers since 1970.
5. As for the distribution of school nurses by teaching experience, the group of less than 5 years constituted the greatest proportion or 53.1% in 1983 and the group of 6 to 10 years constituted 21.2% in 1983.
Comparatively, as for the distribution of general teachers by teaching experience, the group of less than 5 years constituted the greatest proportion or 26.7% in 1983 and the group of 6 to 10 years constituted 17. 1% in 1983.
6. Resignated rate of school nurses was 10. 6% in 1966, while 4.5% in 1983.
Comparatively, that of general teachers was 3.2% in 1966. and 3.7% in 1983.
As for the resignated cause of school nurses, marriage constituted the greatest proportion or 26.6% in 1983.
Suspended rate from service of school nurses was 0. 3% in 1983. Comparatively, that of general teachers was revealed 0.3% in 1983.
New employed rate of school nurses was 0. 9% in 1966 and 1.6% in 1983.
